India may allow duty-free sugar imports to curb rising prices
The Indian government is considering allowing limited duty-free sugar imports to control record-high domestic prices ahead of the festival season until October-end, reports said. Sugar prices in Kolhapur have risen nearly 20% since the beginning of August to ₹5,350 per 100 kg. The government may allow mills to import up to 1 million tonnes duty-free while considering tighter stock limits.
