India observed the Non-Resident Indian (NRI) Day on Saturday to commemorate the return of Mahatma Gandhi from South Africa to India on January 9, 1915. The NRI Day is being celebrated since 2003 to mark the contribution of the overseas Indian community in the development of India and honour individuals of exceptional merit with the prestigious Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Award.
