India once had ₹10,000 notes

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) issued the first ₹10,000 note in 1938. It is the largest denomination ever printed in the country. It was demonetised in 1946 to combat hoarding and curb black-market activity. It was reintroduced in 1954 and was once again demonetised in 1978 for the same reasons as the 1946 demonetisation.
