India overtakes US, becomes 2nd-largest solar growth market
India's installed solar capacity has surged from about 3 GW in 2014 to 162.15 GW as of June 30, 2026, making solar the country's largest renewable energy source. Solar module manufacturing capacity has also risen to around 172 GW. India added 37 GW of solar capacity in 2025, becoming the world's second-largest solar growth market and overtaking the US in annual additions.
