India planning a new airport in Lakshadweep: Report

India is now planning to develop a new airport at the Minicoy Island, the southernmost island of Lakshadweep, ANI reported. "The plan is to have a joint airfield that would be capable of operating fighter jets, military transport planes and commercial aircraft," ANI quoted government sources as saying. This plan of having a joint-use defence airfield is being actively progressed.
