India plans to acquire nine conventional submarines

India has modified its defence procurement strategy to acquire nine conventional submarines instead of six. The move aims to strengthen underwater capabilities as the Navy's fleet is projected to shrink over the next two decades. The move is crucial amid China's growing submarine force and Pakistan's naval build-up, with several Indian submarines set for decommissioning from the late 2030s.
