India reports 1,761 COVID-19 deaths in 24 hours, highest since pandemic began

India has reported 2,59,170 new COVID-19 cases and 1,761 deaths in the last 24 hours, which is the highest single-day rise in the death toll in the country so far. With this, the total number of cases reached 1,53,21,089, while the death toll surged to 1,80,530. There are 20,31,977 active COVID-19 cases in the country.
