India responds after US plans new 12.5% tariff on India over forced labour

The Commerce Ministry released a statement after US Trade Representative proposed a 10-12.5% tariff on India and 59 other economies over alleged failures to act against forced labour. "The proposed tariffs aren't yet final, and stakeholders can submit requests to participate in public hearings by 22 June 2026," it stated, adding that India remained engaged with US on the matter.
