India's costliest EV attracts only 5% GST, regular petrol cars up to 50%: Congress

Congress compared the 5% GST levied on India's most expensive luxury EV worth ₹2.38 crore with 28%-50% GST + cess applicable on regular petrol cars. "Even the world's richest countries don't hand out such massive tax breaks...for ultra-luxury EVs," it wrote on X. Some users criticised Congress, stating 5% GST is applicable on all EVs as decided by GST council.
