India's hottest district shuts down at 10 in the morning as temp crosses 48°C
India's hottest district, Banda in UP, shuts down at around 10 am as temperatures hit 48°C. Jeweller Lakhan Gupta said he sold "almost nothing" since April as Banda becomes deserted during the day and customers rarely come before evening. Labourers are also reportedly taking 40% pay cuts to work at night under LED floodlights as daytime heat has become unbearable.
