India's wild tiger population doubles in over 10 years, surges past 3,600
India has achieved the St Petersburg Declaration goal of doubling its wild tiger population by 2022, Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav said. According to the National Tiger Conservation Authority, the tiger population rose from 1,706 in 2010 to an estimated 3,682 in 2022. Yadav said this during a workshop marking 18 years of tiger reintroduction in Rajasthan's Sariska Tiger Reserve.
