India sets its own air quality standards, global rankings are not official: Govt

Global air quality rankings are not conducted by any official authority and countries, including India, prepare their own air quality standards, government informed the Parliament on Thursday. The national air quality standards are based on "geography, environmental factors, background levels, socio-economic status", it said. WHO standards serve only as "guidelines" and aren't binding, it added.
