India signs over ₹2,000 crore deal with Russia for T-72 tanks

India signed an over ₹2,000 crore deal with Russian arms exporter Rosoboronexport to upgrade its T-72 tanks with more powerful 1,000 HP engines, Defence Ministry said on Friday. These new engines will reportedly replace existing 780 HP units, improving the Indian Army's battlefield mobility and offensive capabilities. The T-72 has been a key part of India's tank fleet since 1970s.
