India to get its 1st plastic currency notes next yr: RBI Governor

The RBI is planning to roll out India's first polymer banknotes from the next financial year, Governor Sanjay Malhotra said on Wednesday. The plastic notes will circulate alongside existing paper currency instead of replacing them. Malhotra said the more durable polymer notes will extend the lifespan of lower-denomination currency and help expand the country's currency printing capacity.
