India to launch its own mobile phone by 2028, announces Vaishnaw

Union IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has announced that by October 23, 2028, India will launch an India-branded mobile phone that's designed and manufactured in India and will be the "largest-selling" device. Speaking at the NDTV World Summit, Vaishnaw explained why it's so tough to design a mobile phone. He said this will help India retain the phone's intellectual property rights.
