India tops the world for unpaid work, shows report

An ADP People at Work 2026 report found that 24% of Indian workers spend more than 16 hours a week on unpaid work, the highest proportion globally. Another 40% spend 6-15 hours weekly. Globally, only 12% work 16 or more unpaid hours. Higher unpaid hours were associated with lower perceived productivity, stress, reduced wellbeing and greater intentions to change jobs.
