Indian chess revolution continues: Tharoor as India gets 1st GM from Northeast
MP Shashi Tharoor hailed 16-year-old Mayank Chakraborty for becoming India's 94th chess Grandmaster (GM) and the first from Assam and the Northeast. Tharoor wrote on X, "From zero to 94: The Indian chess revolution continues." He added that India has become the fastest-growing hub for chess talent, now accounting for nearly 5% of the world's total Grandmaster population.
