Indian researchers solve 70-year-old chemistry puzzle

Indian researchers at IIT Madras and IISc Bengaluru have synthesised a carbon-free molecule mimicking ferrocene's iconic "sandwich" structure, a problem that remained unsolved for over 70 years. The new molecule replaces ferrocene's iron-carbon architecture with osmium at the centre, flanked by two boron-based rings. The discovery has been reported in Science journal.
