Indian scientists replicate human placenta functions on a chip

A team of Indian scientists have developed a "placenta-on-chip" technology that replicates key functions of the human placenta. Created by the ICMR-National Institute for Research on Women's Health and Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, the platform mimics the maternal-fetal interface. It could improve research on pregnancy complications, drug safety and reduce reliance on animal testing.
