Indians downloaded VPNs 9.19 lakh times a day after Telegram ban: Report

India witnessed a sharp hike in VPN app downloads a day after Telegram was temporarily banned over NEET-UG 2026 re-examination. App intelligence firm Appfigures and TNN's report claimed that downloads of the top 100 VPN apps hit 9.19 lakh on June 17, the highest since 2025's beginning. Telegram CEO Pavel Durov had warned that users find workarounds to app bans.
