India's 1st lunar mission Chandrayaan-1 was launched in 2008
India's first ever mission to moon 'Chandrayaan-1' was launched successfully from Sriharikota on October 22, 2008. With a lift-off mass of 1,380 kg, the spacecraft was missioned to map a three-dimensional atlas of the moon and the surface's chemical and mineral composition. The mission was concluded when communication with the spacecraft was lost on August 29, 2009.
