India's Chandrayaan-1 helped NASA detect water on Moon

Using data from instruments aboard India's Chandrayaan-1 spacecraft, NASA scientists in 2009 found evidence of water locked in mineral grains on the moon surface. The findings represented the first detection of this form of water from lunar orbit. The researchers earlier used to believe that the moon rocks were completely dry and any water detected was considered contamination from Earth.
