India's retail inflation surges to 7.79% in April, highest in 8 years

India's retail inflation surged to 7.79% in April 2022, the highest since May 2014, data released by the government on Thursday showed. At 7.79%, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) inflation for April is higher than the March number of 6.95%. Earlier this month, RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das had said inflation was "expected to be elevated" in April.
