Ex-PM and Congress leader Indira Gandhi was released from jail on October 4, 1977, a day after her arrest on the charge of political corruption. The magistrate who released her said the charges levelled against her, which included that vehicles donated to her party were sold to the army, were not justifiable. Later, she came back to power in 1980.
