The Minangkabau ethnic group in West Sumatra, Indonesia is the world's largest matrilineal society, according to BBC. As per their social structure, ancestral property is inherited by daughters, a husband is considered a guest in his wife's house, and children take their mother's name. Additionally, dowry is set by the bride's family, based on the groom's educational qualifications and profession.
