Indore becomes India's 1st beggar-free city

Indore has been declared India's first beggar-free city after rehabilitating around 5,000 beggars. The campaign helped adults find jobs and enrolled children in schools. Launched in February 2024, it became a model identified by the Union Ministry and World Bank. Begging is now banned, with cash rewards offered for reporting violations, marking a shift toward dignity and inclusion.
