Indus water treaty was signed on this day

The treaty of Indus river water-sharing between India and Pakistan was signed on September 19, 1960. The settlement was signed in Karachi by India’s then Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru and Pakistan's then President Ayub Khan. The treaty was a result of Pakistan’s fear that India could potentially create droughts there during war times, as the river’s source lay in India.
