Inoperative PAN is not an inactive PAN, clarifies Income Tax Department

The Income Tax Department on Tuesday clarified that an inoperative PAN is not an inactive PAN. It added, "One may file the Income Tax Return irrespective of PAN becoming inoperative." The department further said there are only three consequences of 'inoperative' PAN. One of the consequences includes pending refunds and interest on such refunds not being issued to inoperative PANs.
