Instacart CEO Apoorva Mehta pays staff using tips, apologises

US-based grocery delivery startup Instacart's CEO Apoorva Mehta has apologised after a class-action lawsuit alleged the startup 'maliciously' included customer tips in employees' base salary. However, Mehta said the decision to do so was taken to increase the guaranteed payment for small orders. Adding that tips will be separate, Mehta said affected employees will be retroactively compensated.
