Iran keeps F-14 Tomcat flying despite sanctions and ageing fleet

Iran is the only country still operating the F-14 Tomcat, acquired from the US before the 1979 revolution. Cut off from spare parts after sanctions, Tehran kept the jet flying through cannibalisation, reverse engineering and local manufacturing. Though outdated militarily, the F-14 remains a symbolic and surveillance asset in Iran's air defence network.
