The Iranian rial dropped to a historic low as it dipped to 42,125 rial against 1 USD, making it the second-worst performing currency in the world after Lebanese pound. This major economic strain prompted Iranian citizens to stage nationwide strikes. The protests also led to resignation of Central Bank of Islamic Republic of Iran's Governor Mohammad Reza Farzin.
