IRDAI to test system that may deny fuel to uninsured vehicles: Report

IRDAI is planning to test an automated number plate recognition system that will match vehicle registration numbers with insurance records, Moneycontrol reported. The system could eventually allow fuel stations to deny petrol or diesel to uninsured vehicles. The Supreme Court recently proposed linking fuel supply to vehicles' insurance status to enforce mandatory third-party motor insurance.
