Irene Triplett, last person to collect US Civil War pension, passes away

Irene Triplett, the last person to receive a US government pension from the American Civil War of 1861-65, passed away at the age of 90 on May 31. Irene received over ₹5,500 from the government every month due to her father Mose Triplett's service in the war. Irene suffered cognitive impairments, qualifying her for the lifelong pension.
