Irom Sharmila's fast is world's longest hunger strike

Manipur human rights activist Irom Sharmila's 16-year long fast, which had started in 2000, is the longest hunger strike in the world. Popularly known as the “Iron Lady of Manipur,” Sharmila demanded the repeal of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act in Manipur. Notably, the activist ended her fast on Tuesday, and decided to join active politics.
