Is the Indian spectacled cobra one species or many?

A breakthrough study by IISc researchers traces the Indian spectacled cobra (Naja Naja) back to its African origins 10-14 million years ago. The new genetic map reveals high connectivity from Rajasthan's deserts to the Western Ghats. While physical traits suggested five subspecies, DNA shows they are one continuous population.
