Israel sees spike in PTSD and suicide among troops

Israel is facing a mental health crisis among its soldiers, with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) cases rising nearly 40% since 2023 and suicides sharply increasing, official data shows. The combat soldiers reportedly comprised 78% of all suicide cases in Israel in 2024. Prolonged fighting in Gaza and Lebanon has left troops grappling with fear, moral injury and untreated trauma.
