It is not advisable to lower age of consent from 18 to 16: Law panel

Law Commission of India said it's not advisable to lower age of consent from 18 to 16 under POCSO Act. It'll have negative bearing on fight against child marriage and child trafficking, it added. However, it said amendments are needed to remedy situation in cases involving tacit approval on part of children aged 16-18 and suggested introducing guided judicial discretion.
