Jack in the Box closes stores as turnaround pressures mount

American fast-food chain Jack in the Box is in the middle of a high-stakes turnaround as rising costs, softer demand, and fierce value competition hurt sales. The company plans to close 80-120 restaurants under its Jack on Track plan, has exited Del Taco to cut debt and simplify operations, and recently adopted a poison-pill defense after activist investor pressure.
