James Talarico marks 1st statewide win for Democrats in Texas in 32 years

James Talarico won the Senate election in Texas during US' midterms, making it the first time a Democrat won statewide office in Texas since 1994. Talarico defeated Republican candidate Ken Paxton, who was backed by US President Donald Trump, ending the Democrats' 32-year statewide losing streak. Paxton has been Texas' Attorney General since 2015 and was impeached in 2023.
