Jamsetji Tata built Taj after a hotel denied entry to him
Tata Group Founder Jamsetji Tata is believed to have commissioned the Taj Mahal Hotel in Mumbai after he was denied entry to Watson's Hotel, which was known to have an 'all-white' clientele. He wished to make the hotel in contrast to the Watson's Hotel, which had been Mumbai's only five-star hotel before the Taj.
