Japan discovers new bird species for 1st time since 1982
A new bird species, the Tokara Leaf Warbler (Phylloscopus tokaraensis), has been discovered in Japan's Tokara Islands. The bird looks similar to the previously known Ijima's Leaf Warbler (Phylloscopus ijimae). It measures about 10-12 centimetres in length, with a wingspan of roughly 16-18 centimetres and weighs around 6-9 grams. This is Japan's first new bird species discovered since 1982.
