Japan to ask firms not to pay in rubles for Russia transactions

Japanese Chief Cabinet Secretary Hirokazu Matsuno said the government will ask Japanese firms to refuse if Russia asks for ruble payments for economic transactions, especially in the energy sector. Last week, Russian President Vladimir Putin had demanded "unfriendly" nations to pay for Russian gas in rubles. Putin made the demand after the West imposed sanctions on Russia over Ukraine invasion.
