Japanese population drops below 12 crore for 1st time in decades

The number of Japanese people living in Japan dropped below 120 million (12 crore) for the first time in 42 years amid low birth rate and ageing society, government data showed. Their population fell by 9.1 lakh from previous year. However, population of foreign residents living in Japan rose by over 3.5 lakh, reaching its highest level since record-keeping began.
