Japan's Nikkei index hits 38,000 mark for 1st time in 34 years

Japan's Nikkei Stock Average index hit the 38,000 mark intraday for the first time in 34 years after it rose over 3% from yesterday's close of 36,897.42 to reach 38,010.69. The rally was fuelled by technology companies including SoftBank Group and Daikin Industries. Technology sector contributed ¥753.88 to Tuesday's surge, followed by Consumer Goods sector (¥144.77) and Materials sector (¥86.30).
