JET nuclear fusion reactor set new energy output record

Researchers at the Joint European Torus facility have set a new world energy record by releasing 69 megajoules of energy in a controlled fusion reaction. The record was achieved by heating a plasma of deuterium and tritium, two hydrogen isotopes, to 150 million degrees Celsius, releasing the same amount of energy as burning 2 kilograms of coal.
