Following four failed attempts to build the Zojila tunnel in Jammu and Kashmir via private participation, the Centre has reportedly decided to construct it with its own funds. The proposed 14.08 km tunnel, which will provide all-weather connectivity between Srinagar and Ladakh region, also has great strategic significance. Currently, the Ladakh region remains inaccessible by road during winters.
