Jodie becomes first woman to play lead role in Doctor Who

Actress Jodie Whittaker will portray the Doctor in the thirteenth season of the BBC television series Doctor Who. This will be the first time the role will be played by a woman in 54 years of the show's history. Whittaker said it was "completely overwhelming" to play the role and she wanted fans to not be "scared" by her gender.
