Joe Biden officially secured enough electors to become US President after Secretary of State of California Alex Padilla formally approved Biden's win in the state. Biden's tally of pledged electors has reached 279. A candidate needs 270 electoral votes to become US President. In November, Donald Trump's administration cleared the way for Biden to transition to the White House.
