Julian Assange’s path to freedom: A timeline

Julian Assange founded WikiLeaks in 2006. In 2010, he released major U.S. military and diplomatic documents. Arrested in 2010 for Swedish sex crime allegations, he sought asylum in Ecuador’s London embassy in 2012. After Ecuador revoked asylum in 2019, he was arrested. In 2024, he agreed to a plea deal with the U.S., allowing him to return to Australia.
