Justice Ayesha Malik to be Pakistan's 1st female Supreme Court judge

Justice Ayesha Malik, 55, has been appointed as the first woman judge of Pakistan’s Supreme Court, nearly 75 years after the country’s independence. The nine-member body that confirmed her appointment voted five votes against four. Notably, Justice Malik's elevation was discussed last year as well but the panel was equally split, resulting in the rejection of her candidature.
